Politics getting involved within the Catalonia bullfighting ban

Spain and bullfighting go hand in hand. The Spanish province had, on July 28, bullfighting banned. The bullfighting ban could have to start by year 2010 in Spain. Animal rights activists cheered when the Catalonian parliament in Barcelona passed a resolution banning bullfighting. Numerous believe that the bullfighting ban was not about animal cruelty. Many think that Catalonians are just trying to be different than the rest of Spain in this political act.

Catalonia bullfighting ban more for people than for animals

The Catalonia bullfighting ban seems to be more about politics than animal cruelty. NPR reports that Catalonia has only one bullring and about 15 bullfights a year. Those against bullfighting said it was very cruel when those for it said Spanish Culture was at stake. Many think breaking from Spanish tradition is a good thing because it will set Catalonia apart from the rest of Spain. Barcelona is when all this began when bulls seem unharmed by the activity. Spain has about 1,000 bullfights a year.

Catalonia and Madrid differences in bullfighting

The Catalonia bullfighting ban was taken seriously by fans and Spanish conservatives. The Popular Party is expecting there to be an anti-Spanish rebuke in the near future with everything that is going on. Catalonia is a wealthy and powerful province with its own language (Catalan) and culture, also as a strong penchant for self-rule. It has been seen by everybody all the pressure to outlaw bullfighting as a political statement.

Rebellious stance with bullfighting ban

The Catalonia bullfighting ban indeed has nothing to do with sympathy for the bulls bleeding to death within the bullring, according to Spanish travel blogger Damian Corrigan. Corrigan says that it doesn’t even matter if you’re independent in today’s Europe on About.com. The political separatist movement blurs causes like anti-bullfighting to the point where Catalonians appear to stand for nothing else but less taxes going to Madrid. Coherent political stances are optional and rebellion exists simply for the sake of rebellion.
