There are plenty of people who wanted Adam Lambert to win the American Idol 2009 contest more than a cash advance. His rock star charm seemed to sweep over the entire nation, and something, in my opinion, caused a shift in the finale votes: Adam’s sexuality.
Aside from being known as the crazy boy/girl screaming about Britney Spears on Youtube, Chris Crocker was a major figure in turning the American Idol win into a sexual orientation contest. He admitted countless times that he hoped Adam won merely because he is presumed gay. Polls, articles, and media videos have been uploaded onto the Internet discussing his past, his glamorous makeup, and if he likes the same sex or not.
Chris Crocker later said that, “America ****** up,” when they voted for American Idol winner Kris Allen. Lots of Lambert fans are calling this year’s finale the most surprising upset in the show’s history; it was said that Wednesday night’s finale show was the lowest rated American Idol finale since the show’s inception. Yet, the two finalists received some of the greatest compliments the show has ever seen.
People are saying this must be a mad world if Adam Lambert didn’t win. I think that the country voted for who they wanted. Something is outstanding about Lambert’s voice, however, but I think lots of Americans couldn’t get past his appearance. Some people called him emo; others called him gay, while the majority recognized his talent.
“He has a great voice, but he needs to change the look,” some people have said. I’ve heard others say, “I love his look and his voice is great,” and I noticed that he looks were being talked about more than his talent. Did this cause his loss of the American Idol title? I believe it did.
I agree with Adam not winning the contest, not because he isn’t good, but because he’s good enough. This guy is going to get a record deal, and based on the marketing and promotion of an upcoming album, he might sell 10 times more records than Kris Allen. He had star potential when he arrived to American Idol, and the show helped give him the much needed exposure he deserved, but maybe not the AI title.
Now that Kris Allen is the next American Idol, there’s no need for him to apply for an online cash advance any time soon. Yet, it seems that he was more shocked in hearing that he won, allowing me to conclude that Allen expected his challenger’s talent to trump his own.
And while Kris’ songs seemed too calm, watered down, and somewhat repressed, in my opinion, his musical abilities extended beyond Lambert’s powerhouse voice. Not only did Allen play the guitar, he also tickled the ivory, proving that he has plenty of room to grow into his own style.
I can’t predict what will happen to these two talents in the future, especially seeing as how the selected winner was so unexpected. I can predict that fans such as Chris Crocker should except and enjoy these musicians because of their talent and not because of their sexual orientation, if not, the thin veneer of superficiality surrounding the entertainment industry will make it more difficult for new talent to succeed.
Unlike a cash advance, a person’s attitude, their way of dress and charisma are like icing on a cake, not the entire main course. I wish nothing but good luck and success to both contestants in their futures!
